BIO
Tenor saxophonist Rik van der Made (21), born in The Netherlands is currently a final year jazz student at the Tilburg Conservatory and will follow his master's degree at the"Royal Academy of Music" in London.
He was taught by Steven Dietvorst, Paul Weiling, Yuri Honing and Guido Nijs, among others. He writes his own work for his own group, Rik van der Made Group.
Rik is nominated and finalist of the “Conservatorium Talent Award” in 2021, where one of his compositions will be arranged for and accompanied by the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw. He is also a finalist of the “Grachtenfestival Jazz Competition” in 2022 and nominated for the Jaques de Leeuw Prize.
In addition to this project, he can also be seen and heard in the Jong Metropole (2021) National Youth Jazz Orchestra (NJJO 2019/2020) conducted by Ruben Hein, theband Smelly Kitchen, the swing band Mattia and the Matrangas and the horn section. With these different line-ups he has played on various stages and festivals throughout the country such as, North Sea Jazz, Concert at Sea, Jazz in Duketown, Bimhuis, LantarenVenster, Tivoli Vredenburg, Amersfoort Jazz, PaRaDoX, Grachten Festival Amsterdam, Make It Jazz Festival, and so on.
As a tenor saxophonist and clarinetist, Rik has also been part of the orchestra of the major Medialane theater production “Hello Dolly!”, in which Paul de Leeuw, Simone Kleinsma, Jörgen Raymann and Freek Bartels played the leading roles.
He has played with Jack van Pol, Heijn van de Geijn, John Engels, Rob van Bavel, Hans van Oosterhout, Ruben Heijn, Bert Boeren, Teus Nobel, Guido Nijs, Benjamin Herman, Paul van Kemenade and many others.
